This week we are wrapping up our final week of second grade! Our year has flown by! As soon to be third graders and experts of all things second grade, we would like you to write a letter to future second graders that will help them feel less nervous about jumping into a new grade, meeting a new teacher and being around new friends. Make sure to model your very best writing and upload your completed letter to Class Dojo!
Watch the Flocabulary video below to refresh your memory on how to write a letter. After watching the Flocabulary video you can print out the letter template or create your own letter from materials you have at home. In five sentences or more and in your neatest and nicest handwriting write a letter to a future second grader. Share what they can expect in second grade. Share some of the things they will learn and what our classroom is like. How will their teacher be? How can they be successful in second grade? Feel free to include any advice and get as creative as you would like. Happy Writing!
If you have not completed your letter, please check out Monday's assignment and be sure and get your letter finished!
For those students who have completed and shared your letter through Class Dojo feel free to work through Teacher your Monster to Read or Prodigy for 15 minutes or more!
Be sure and follow the correct link for you class!

This week, students will continue responding in writing to what they are reading or listening to at home. Many students are doing a great job at remembering to stretch out their writing by including restates, details from their stories, and even remembering closing sentences! Check out the comments on your portfolio submissions to see how you can strengthen your writing this week.
The expectation for this week is that students complete daily reading for 15- 20 minutes (reading can be completed with hard copy books at home or e-books like the ones on Epic!) and then respond to the prompt for that specific day. Across the year we've spent a lot of time discussing how students can continue adapting their writing in preparation for 3rd grade. Feel free to utilize the writing checklist below as you are responding daily and upload your completed work to your portfolio in Class Dojo.
Last week we celebrated Teacher Appreciation Week! This week is not only dedicated to the teachers that students work with every day, but those that work hard throughout the year to plan specials classes like Library, P.E., FIT, Art, Spanish and many more! Although we were very appreciative of the special letters, videos and goodies we received throughout the week last week, we thought it would be nice to send a little something to some of our other favorite teachers.
Watch the Flocabulary video below to refresh your memory on how to write a letter. After watching the Flocabulary video you can print out the letter template or create your own letter from materials you have at home. In your neatest and nicest handwriting, write a letter to at least one of our specials teachers. (This could be Mrs. Ortiz, Coach Williamson, Coach Chavez, Mrs. Stanford, Sra. Montano, Ms. Wright, Ms. Celina, Mr. K. or anyone else that you may see throughout the day). In five sentences or more include why these teachers are special. How do they help make our school a better place? Wish them a Happy Teacher's Appreciation Week! Feel free to get as creative as you would like. Include illustrations and color. Happy Writing!
Send a picture of your completed letter to your teacher through Class Dojo Portfolios. For any students who are interested you can also mail your letter to your teacher at the following address: 3100 San Isidro Road NW, Albuquerque, New Mexico, 87107
