Capture the Array
You will need:
• A partner • Two 6 sided dice • One sheet of graph paper or print the sheet - 2 different color crayons/color pencils or markers
How To Play
1. Player 1 rolls two 6-sided dice. These are the dimensions of their first array (ex. 4x5).
2. Player 1 outlines and colors in their array, and writes the COMPLETE number sentence inside of the box (ex. 4x5=20). The first array must be placed in the starting position.
3. Player 2 rolls the dice, outlines and colors their array, and writes in the COMPLETE number sentence. Again, it must be placed in player 2’s starting position.
4. Player 1 continues the process. After each player takes their first turn, all following arrays only need to be touching ONE side of an existing array of their color. Player 2 then rolls the dice and continues the process.
5. If eventually, you run out of space and cannot make your array in a free space, you lose a turn. When neither player has any more room, the game is over. The player with the most arrays of their color wins! Congratulations!

Materials: game board (or the same numbers written on a sheet of paper with spacing between each #) , ten game markers for each player (beans, pebbles, beads or any small object) , paper for solving the equations
Number of Players: 2-4
Directions:
1. Identify the “Target Sum.”
2. The first player places one of their markers on any number on the game board and says the number aloud.
3. The next player places one of their markers on any number and mentally adds it to the previous number and says the sum aloud.
4. Each player follows in turn by placing one of their markers on another number and mentally adding it to the previous sum and saying the new sum aloud. Players could use number lines, place value chart or hundreds boards as a tool or add mentally
5. The winner is the first player to reach the “target sum.”
Variation/Extension: Players could begin with a target number and then subtract the numbers on which they place their markers. The winner would be the first player to reach zero. Players could change the target number.
