Family Engagement

LCE understands that family engagement is a vital part of the academic success of their students. Our goal is to create opportunities for parents and families to participate in their child’s education. Families of ELs may have a particularly difficult time engaging in school activities, that’s why APS must create many meaningful opportunities for parents to be involved. Parents and families, who are English learners, might be able to benefit from ELD classes and other community supports. It is essential that communication from the school is in the home language. Schools are often the heart of the community and parents and families should be warmly welcomed and supported in all of our schools at APS.

FAMILY ENGAGEMENT CORE BELIEFS

Core Belief #1

Parents have the capacity to help their children regardless of their background.

Core Belief #2

All parents have dreams for their children and want the best for them.

Core Belief #3

Parent's are their child's first teacher and are experts on their children.

If we hold the above three core beliefs to be true, then it grounds our work with students and families. These core beliefs guide our work and assist us as educators to ENGAGE families in a meaningful and power way. This also means changing our view of "what" family engagement is, and how we view all families engaging.

ROSETTA STONE LICENSES

The Language and Cultural Equity department is proud to announce that ALL licenses have been issued.

READ-AT-HOME BACKPACKS

Read at Home Backpacks were distributed to students in Bilingual Programs including Dual Language and Heritage Model classrooms and those students enrolled in our Native Language and Cultural Program. Students who are enrolled in a Bilingual Program, Kindergarten through 12th grade, and our Native Language and Cultural Program, were given the opportunity to take home three culturally relevant books and a backpack. Our goal was to encourage the love of literature at home, while reading characters and themes found in the beautiful literature, in which students would see themselves, their families and peers represented.
