Family Engagement

LCE understands that family engagement is a vital part of the academic success of their students. Our goal is to create opportunities for parents and families to participate in their child’s education. Families of ELs may have a particularly difficult time engaging in school activities, that’s why APS must create many meaningful opportunities for parents to be involved. Parents and families, who are English learners, might be able to benefit from ELD classes and other community supports. It is essential that communication from the school is in the home language. Schools are often the heart of the community and parents and families should be warmly welcomed and supported in all of our schools at APS.

FAMILY  ENGAGEMENT CORE BELIEFS

Core Belief #1

Parents have the capacity to help their children regardless of their background.

Core Belief #2

All parents have dreams for their children and want the best for them.

Core Belief #3

Parent's are their child's first teacher and are experts on their children.

If we hold the above three core beliefs to be true, then it grounds our work with students and families. These core beliefs guide our work and assist us as educators to ENGAGE families in a meaningful and power way. This also means changing our view of "what" family engagement is, and how we view all families engaging.

Become part of your schools BPAC!

The PACs purpose is to assist and advise in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the program (TAM, pg.8).

Every BMEP school needs a BPAC

Parents, along with teachers, administrators, and other staff, shall be empowered to decide the type of BMEP most appropriate for their children and their community. To cultivate meaningful relationships with families and solicit feedback about the program from parents, districts and state charter schools with BMEPs must establish a PAC, representative of the languages and cultures of all the students in the program.

The guidance provided to districts in this manual about the requirements of state statute and regulation is meant to support local Bilingual Multicultural Education Program (BMEP) directors and other staff to comply with state law and to ensure that students receive the highest quality of education possible (TAM, pg.5).
