As a kid, Ms.Woods says she had a very good childhood. “My favorite memories from childhood were growing up with my brother” she also called herself “very lucky” to have her brother”.
Although she had a very good childhood her life had a drastic
change in 10th grade. “When I was in 10th grade, my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer.” everything was looking good
according to her “but when I got to 12th grade, things went
downhill. She started to get really sick and we learned that it had
spread all over- her brain, her lungs, her bones” Rachel sadly lost
her mom to breast cancer, she mentioned that “Every day after
being at the hospital I would go home and do homework. I think I
t was a way of distracting myself. After about 4 months of living in
the hospital- 5 days before my 18th birthday, she died.”
Rachel would give anything to see her mom, while having the opportunity to have lunch with anyone in this world she chooses her mom, “I would tell her that I am living my dream and that I absolutely love teaching”.
Rachel is currently going through a very important moment of her life, she is having her first baby! Her baby is the reason why she is so happy right now. She told me “Thinking about the baby that I am about to have in the next couple of days! I am due with a boy on March 3rd”.
Woods is a teacher but she also fights for people’s rights such as women’s rights, and BLM. She mentioned she had various privileges while growing up such as “ my parents were married, but had decent jobs and we were middle class. I am white, heterosexual, non-disabled, educated” She also mentioned, “It wasn't until I got older that I realized that not everyone grows up with the lifestyle or opportunities that I had”.
