An interview with a loving and caring teacher and what it is like inside the world of Alisa Valdez!
By Isabella Garcia
Alisa was born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico. With two loving parents, a sister and two brothers, the Garcia household was never bored.
While Alisa’s nose was always filled with a scent of fresh bread that her mother took freshly out of the oven or the sound her brothers bouncing a basketball on the cracked pavement in their backyard always made it feel like home to her. Even when Alisa was young she could still remember having a great time with her parents.
“One of my favorite memories from when I was a child was when I would go with my dad on the train to go and visit my aunt in California.” Alisa says. “One time while riding the train I had gone to the restroom and found a wad of cash just there. My dad had me turn it in and the conductor told me that if no one claims it then I could have it, luckily for me no one came to claim it.” she continues.

Motivation
Motivation can be a tricky thing for all of us, it can be hard to find something in your life that can keep you going but for Alisa motivation is everywhere.
Motivation for Alisa is being able to see her family whether they are baking or just drinking a steamy cup of tea.
Not only does surrounding herself around the right people motivate her but also growing as a person. The thought of being able to learn more as life goes on really urges Alisa to want to know more.
“To learn is to teach and to teach is to learn” Alisa says. “I guess it ties into my teaching.”.
Alisa has been teaching for 29 years and loves the sensation of teaching others the fundamentals that you will use for the rest of your life. It excites her to no end that there is a chance that she can help out a young child.
Not only is it important to her that the children learn their ABC’s but also that they learn what respect and kindness is. Her bubbly personality does just the trick when it comes to teaching children how to be kind to others.
Alisa Valdez shows a great example of working hard can pay off. One year in her first grade class Mrs.Valdez was asked to host the First Lady Mrs.Bush.
“When I was asked to host Mrs.Bush I was grateful that someone had recognized the hard work and dedication that I put into teaching.”. She continues with “It always feels good when someone does an act of kindness and appreciates your work.”.
