As a requirement of our program, students are required to take our TRIO SSS-specific US 1001 section in the fall of their first semester with either Allyson or Cathia. This course is meant to support you in your transition to college and help you build community with your TRIO SSS peers.

As a requirement of our program, students are required to take our TRIO SSS-specific UCO 1200 section, "Our Appalachian Community" in the fall of their first year with Mady. This course is meant to teach you about Boone and the local community, provide service opportunities, and help you build community with your TRIO SSS peers.

In addition to the above courses, TRIO SSS students must take our TRIO SSS-specific RC 1000 (first year writing) course with Mady during their Spring semester of their first year. This course prepares students to write at a collegiate level and enhances reading comprehension abilities. All App State students are required to take this course, but you get to take this class with a close-knit group of TRIO SSS peers!

In addition to these required courses, TRIO SSS students have priority seating in the Career Development Center's "College to Career" course! This course is not a requirement, but a useful opportunity for students to enhance their professional skills.

Self-discovery related to career decision making.
Understanding the workplace.
Enhancing skills in networking, interviewing, financial literacy and writing.
