What is mica used for?
Mica is most commonly used in the electrical and electronic industries. It can be used as a thermal insulation, to create decorative lamps and/or windows, as well as glass panels on stoves and microwaves. And, since mica is so shiny it is used in make-up to brighten pigments.
Where is Mica found in NC?
Spruce Pine in Mitchell County and Kings Mountain in Cleveland County are the hot spots for mica mining in NC.
