Sustainability Research

The following research has been presented at multiple academic and professional conferences, including the Society for Personality and Social Psychology (Spring 2021), Rivers City I/O Psychology (Fall 2020, Fall 2021), and, upcoming, the Society for I/O Psychology (Spring 2022, Seattle). Using data regarding human resources outcomes and environmental social governance scores, the team sought to confirm the hypothesis that organizations that engage in more environmentally-friendly behaviors have employees who are more motivated, satisfied, and engaged.

With a sample size of 128 international companies and approximately 2 million workers, many of our results were compelling - however, due to inconsistent answering practices, we were unable to report results regarding scores on toxic waste, biodiverse land use, and raw material sourcing. Accordingly, we have identified these as areas for future research. A poster of these outcomes may be viewed below.

Additionally, we have identified future areas of research that include investigating recruitment and retention efforts as they relate to an organization's sustainability efforts. Our abstract may be read through the University of Tennessee Chattanooga's UTC Scholar portal, and our poster calling for investigation of this matter may be viewed below.
