I am a Professor of Geography and the Graduate Program Director in the Department of Geography and Planning at Appalachian State University, located in Boone, North Carolina, in the Southern Appalachian Mountains. As a broadly trained Physical Geographer my interests are in fluvial and coastal geomorphology, hydrology, and field applications of geospatial technologies. Two of my graduate students surveying just downstream of the Ward's Mill Dam, located on the Watauga River. The 100+ year old dam has since been removed, and we are now studying the impact of the removal, and the rate of system recovery
