Step 1: Preliminary admissions to the teacher residency program 

• Application to the Dual Language 

• Partner language proficiency assessments (oral and written)

• Interview

Step 2: admission to a teacher preparation program  

• For candidates interested in teaching Elementary grades (PK-5): 

  • Application to Portland State University - Bilingual Teacher Pathway Elementary

• For candidates interested in teaching Secondary grades (6-12): 

  • Application to Portland State University - Bilingual Teacher Pathway Secondary

Step 3: Portland Public Schools hiring process 

• Apply for the Limited Term job pool

• Hired as a limited term employee to participate in district training sessions 

• Apply for the Substitute Teacher Pool

• Complete the substitute teacher mandatory training 

• Apply to TSPC for a Restricted Substitute License with the sponsorship from Portland Public Schools
