How can the WEHS Student Support Advocate help me?

There are times when all teenagers struggle with circumstances that are overwhelming. The stress of friendships, family difficulties, personal traumas, and school-related issues can interfere with a student’s ability to perform their best at school. At these times, a student can often benefit from additional support to help maintain their emotional well-being and academic success.

The Student Support Advocates at Wylie East High School are here to assist with students facing personal struggles and to help them find the help they need to get through life’s hard times.

Where are the Student Support Advocates (SSA) located?

Mrs. Combest and Mrs. Roberts are located in the counseling suite, RM 319, which is located in the main hall.

How do I set up a meeting with my SSA?

You can come by the counseling office to meet with your SSA during school hours (8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.). If you are in class and need to visit with the SSA, please ask your teacher for a pass to the counselor. If you email your SSA, just be aware they might not see the email right away.

What can I talk to the SSA about?

The SSA is available to talk to you about a wide variety of issues that might be impacting you. Some of these might include: anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, self-harm, homelessness, family difficulties, grief, friendship issues, bullying, teen dating violence, and LGBTQ issues.

If you have an immediate concern that a student may be suicidal, and it is after school hours, please call 911. Voicemails and emails left after school hours may not be received until the next school day.
