This unit bundles student expectations that address the economic and social changes that occurred in the United States at the beginning of the twentieth century. This period of U.S. History is characterized by rapid industrialization, urbanization and immigration. Studying about these economic changes along with the accompanied social changes provides students with an understanding of the social and economic patterns that characterize the United States today.
In the previous unit, students learned about the causes and consequences of the Civil War. In this unit, students study about the role industrialization, urbanization and immigration played in the development of the nation’s economy and the resulting changes in the American way of life.
In the next unit students learn about the global and economic challenges the United States faced in the early half of the twentieth century.
