MAJOR GRADE- Due August 30
This unit bundles student expectations that address the geography of the United States. Students begin their study of U.S. history by examining the geographic patterns of the United States today. An understanding of those patterns along with having a mental map of the United States facilitates the students’ study of the history of the United States and the processes that have brought about those patterns, such as the process of migration.
Prior to this unit of study, students have studied about the physical geographic regions of Texas in fourth grade and have been building proficiency with geographic tools since kindergarten. In this unit, students study about the variety of regions in the United States, and about the settlement patterns evident in the United States today. Additionally, students incorporate the use of geographic tools, especially constructing and interpreting maps, in this unit.
