This unit bundles student expectations that address the characteristics of American society and the cultural patterns that have emerged because of the history of the United States. A study of the values and beliefs reflected in American society is important for understanding the uniqueness of American culture.
In the previous unit, students learned about the how Americans dealt with the challenges posed by the Cold War, the Civil Rights Movement and the War on Terror. In this unit students study about how Americans value civic participation along with the landmarks and symbols Americans use to honor the past. Finally, students complete the course with an examination of how American society is characterized by the contributions of many groups.
