3rd Grade

Third graders had a great time reading The Legend of Rock Paper Scissors and then creating their own version of the game! They came up with three new characters, motions, and rules, and then tested their games with classmates. Along the way, students used creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving to make their ideas work. It was a fun way to practice an important part of STEM—designing, testing, and making improvements! 

Third graders became furniture designers after reading A Chair for My Mother! Their challenge was to build a chair strong enough to hold three stuffed animals of different weights. Students thought carefully about what makes a chair sturdy and discovered how the shape and structure of their designs affected how much weight they could hold. We loved seeing all of the different chair designs they created!
