Captured in March 2026, these images showcase 8th-grade AVID Excel students as they bridge the gap between Scholar Groups and formal AVID Tutorials, supported by the collaborative guidance of their teachers and tutors. The tutors greatly assisted with presenting a scholarly learning environment for these young learners.
At Simons Middle School, the transition from Scholar Groups to formal AVID Tutorials is a masterclass in student agency and academic rigor. By moving beyond basic note-taking into the high-level inquiry of the 10-step tutorial process—evidenced by the meticulous student TRFs and dynamic whiteboard problem-solving seen below—Simons scholars are actively bridging the gap between middle school support and collegiate independence. This purposeful execution of the AVID Excel framework empowers students to own their "Point of Confusion," transforming it into a moment of collaborative breakthrough that directly cultivates the critical thinking and leadership skills essential for high school success and future college and career readiness. The images below signify the dedication to the Simons college readiness environment they believe reinforces a culture of success!
