Future Ready Promise 2022 Tech Plan

Equity and access is at the heart of Pomona Unified School District’s effort to expand the walls of the classroom to “everywhere, all the time learning” and support the digital learning vision of providing opportunities and environments that will equip, inspire, and empower all learners to effectively use technology and become self-directed, goal-oriented, and productive members of their communities.

In 2013 President Obama launched the ConnectED Initiative, a five-year program that aimed to provide 99 percent of students with high-speed Internet connectivity at the classroom level. In the Fall of 2014, Pomona Unified Superintendent Richard Martinez was invited to the White House to participate in a summit to discuss education, digital learning, and the Future Ready Pledge. Taking the Pledge, the district committed to implementing meaningful changes toward a digital learning transition that supports teachers and addresses the district’s vision for student learning.

In the Spring of 2015, the Superintendent asked Dr. Jennifer Wagner, Director of Educational Technology, to contact staff members from across the system to form Pomona Unified School District’s Technology Advisory Committee (TAC). The committee, comprised of twenty teachers, union leadership, CSEA members, district and site administrators, and members of both Educational Technology (EdTech) and Information Technology Services (ITS), has worked together to develop PUSD’s Future Ready Promise 2022 Technology Plan.

During the two-year comprehensive planning process, TAC members used the research-based Future Ready Framework and Planning Dashboard to develop visions, goals, and strategies collaboratively focused on seven key areas (called gears) that comprise the PUSD Future Ready Promise 2022 Technology Plan. The plan will guide our work as a District as we transform the traditional classroom into a personalized learning environment, where a 1:1 student-to-device ratio will allow teachers to adapt learning experiences to meet all learners’ needs through interactive, authentic learning, exploration, and creation.
