The wish well board is a great way to build community in the classroom. It is a time when students wish their peers well when they are absent due to illness or experiencing hardships at home. Our students feel cared for and loved knowing that their class is wishing them well when they are not there.

Research from the Institute of HeartMath.org explains how our heart communicates to our brain and how our emotions effect our cognitive functions. This is why Wishing Well is one of the first steps to the Time Machine (Conflict Resolution) and a recommended activity at the beginning of class. If we can start our day with coherent heart rhythms and be part of a reciprocate welcoming ritual, our classroom school family can be strengthened while students (and adults) can learn a life-long strategy to maintain stress-free interactions.
