The Ottawa-Glandorf Titan Band Program offers a variety of musical opportunities for O-G students.
Students begin their instrumental musical journey in fifth grade. In sixth grade, students continue to develop their fundamentals and begin performing more frequently. Students in seventh and eighth grade are taken from our three K-8 buildings (Glandorf, Ottawa, and Sts. Peter and Paul) and bused to the high school for Junior High Concert Band. This is also when students are offered the opportunity to begin exploring secondary or other instruments - double reeds, larger low brass, low woodwinds, and so on. 8th grade band members are given the opportunity of joining the marching band for football games and parades.
In high school, students participate in the O-G Titan Marching Band in the fall. The marching band competes in the Ohio Music Education Association's (OMEA) marching band adjudicated events, and has competed in OMEA adjudicated events since the 1970's. After marching season, the students then play in concert band for OMEA Large Group Contest and as soloists or with chamber groups for OMEA Solo and Ensemble Contest. Further extra-curricular opportunities include a jazz band which meets after school following the conclusion of the marching band season, and the pep band, which performs at a variety of O-G Boys and Girls basketball games each season.
O-G band students and alumni have other opportunities to perform as well. Our pep band is open to alumni, as is the commencement band which performs each year for the high school graduation ceremony.
The head director of bands at Ottawa-Glandorf is Adam Verbsky. Mr. Verbsky is a graduate of The Ohio State University, graduating with degrees in both Neuroscience and Music Education. While at Ohio State, Mr. Verbsky marched in The Ohio State University Marching Band, where he spent five years in H-Row playing the baritone. While with the band, he marched in London, England at an NFL game hosted in Wembley Stadium, the 2019 Rose Bowl Parade, and at three separate Fiesta Bowls, twice in 2016 and in 2020.
Mr. Verbsky grew up in Bellefontaine, Ohio, where he joined the band in 5th grade. Originally on trumpet, he was convinced to switch to euphonium in 7th grade and never looked back. While most of his time has been spent playing brass instruments in a variety of ensembles, Mr. Verbsky's primary instrument is piano. Throughout high school and college, he performed in a variety of concert bands and smaller ensembles on string bass, guitar, piano, percussion, all varieties of brass instruments, and even clarinet. He is currently a semi-active member of the Brass Band of Columbus. The Brass Band had the distinct pleasure of performing at the 80th Anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attacks in Hawaii, and the 2023 OMEA Professional Development Conference in Columbus.
Mr. Verbsky plays a wide variety of instruments and can often be seen performing in pit orchestras for local school districts' musicals. He has also served as a co-director and co-chair of the OMEA District 3 Junior High Honors Festival Jazz Band since 2024.
Mr. Verbsky lives in Ohio with his wife Grace, who is the band director at Miller City-New Cleveland Schools.
At O-G, Mr. Verbsky teaches band to students in grades 5-12. He also runs the marching band, pep band, jazz band, and teaches a music theory course for high school students.
The assistant director of bands at Ottawa-Glandorf is Reganne Dunlop. Ms. Dunlop grew up in Pickerington, Ohio, where she started her band career in 6th grade, as well as participating in choir. Her primary instrument is trombone, but she picked up euphonium while in high school and continues learning and performing other various instruments to this day. Ms. Dunlop graduated from Capital University in 2023 with a degree in Music Education. At Capital, she was a part of various musical ensembles including Wind Symphony, Symphonic Winds, Trombone Choir, and a few smaller chamber groups. During her career, she has performed in the New Year's Day Parade in London, England, the Rose Bowl Parade in Pasadena, California, and at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
While in college, Ms. Dunlop marched Phantom Regiment drum corps. She was a member of the euphonium section from 2020-2023. While a part of the corps, she moved in after her spring semesters in May, spent about 5 weeks learning and detailing their show, then spent the remaining 5-6 weeks touring throughout the United States. The conclusion of the season would take place at the Drum Corps International World Championships at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Ms. Dunlop spent her first two years teaching middle school band and choir at Gallup Middle School in Gallup, New Mexico. While serving as the band/choir director, she organized and participated in many events and performances such as pep band, concerts, district honor band, and district contest. She led the middle school ensemble to their first Superior rating at district contest. She also served as Gallup Mid's Athletic Director.
At O-G, Ms. Dunlop assists Mr. Verbsky with 5-12 band, as well as the marching band.
The 2024 Concert Band at Findlay High School for the OMEA State Large Group Adjudicated Event
In 1964, the schools of Ottawa, Glandorf, and Sts. Peter and Paul combined to form one high school. It was at that time we became the Ottawa-Glandorf High School Titan Band.
Our first director, Louis Breece, along with his long-time assistant director, Ken Schortgen, were the creators of the ever-popular "Titan Brass." The idea stemmed from both director's excitement for drum and bugle corps. The O-G high school band students would all choose between brass instruments, percussion, or color guard for the marching season. Woodwind players would switch back to their primary instrument for the concert season. The "Titan Brass" tradition would continue for the next 30+ years, until the judging in OMEA (Ohio Music Education Association) contests demanded a wider variety of instrument sounds for their adjudicated marching events.
The O-G Titan Band program has enjoyed a long history of successful performance. While under Louis and Fred's direction, the marching band never went to OMEA State Finals performances, so no official record of state qualifications are held through OMEA. However, it is widely known that the O-G Titan Band program was a repeat qualifier for OMEA State Finals from when OMEA started the current state finals format in 1980 until the early 2000's. The band began to attend State for marching band at some point in the early 2000's.

"I" (Superior) ratings:
2011
While there is significant history in the marching band world for the O-G band, the concert band side is not nearly as well fleshed out. Based on historical accounts and conversations with alumni, the band would traditionally attend the District level Large Group Adjudicated Event. It appears that there were many years where one or more of the concert bands would receive a Superior rating which qualified them for State, but we only have record of attending the State level event in 1967 (with a mystery plaque archaeologically dated to the early/mid-1970's, assumed to be large group as well). This changed in 2024, when the band received a "I" (Superior) at the District level event for the first time in several years and made the decision to attend the State level event where they once again received a "I" (Superior), potentially the first in program history.
