German 350

German 350 is essentially UW German 103, but taught in a high school setting. The course is taught in the Fall semester which gives students plenty of time to refine their skills and vocabulary learned in previous German courses. The major emphasis is on speaking, reading, and writing. The reading continues to focus on cultural information and on preparing students to read and study literature in its original, simplified form. Listening and speaking skills are further developed and refined as students converse and communicate using the past, present, and future tenses. Students refine their speaking and grammar comprehension further by frequently writing compositions and then presenting these writings orally to the rest of the class. Students’ compositions in 350 consist of at least 200-300 words. In addition to a common textbook, students are introduced to materials from newspaper articles, magazines, books, and Internet sources. These documents span a variety of topics (political, economic, social, cultural, and others) to familiarize the students with contemporary issues facing Germany as well as the European community. A verbal proficiency exam will be given at the end of the course.

The UW Credit is optional, but all the students have the same workload (they all take UW exams) and it is encouraged to take advantage of the college credits offered. They are 70% cheaper than the on campus ones!
