GAPP    Exchange

The German American Partnership Program (GAPP) has existed at WHS since 1989. It's an educational exchange partnership between WHS/NCHS and Gymnasium Ohlstedt (high school) in Hamburg, Germany.

The German American Partnership Program (GAPP) is a non-profit high school exchange program conducted between schools in Germany and the United States.  It is sponsored by the German Foreign Office and by the US Department of State.

The main objective of the program is to facilitate the integration of students into the everyday life of host families and into the classroom activities of host schools.  This is not simply a trip to Europe where one stays in hotels and rides a tour bus.

Each participating guest student is partnered with a student and his/her family in the host country. All participants must host a German in their home for 3 weeks.  They attend classes and are basically a new member of the family.  We travel to Germany the following year (in June or August) and do the same in Hamburg!

Our travel groups are limited to a maximum of 16 students per visit as selected by the GAPP coordinator for the respective school. An application is to be completed by each participant, which is then sent to the host country where they are paired with a host student.

The exchange happens every calendar year and our  German guests visit us later in Oct of 2024 and we go to visit them in the summer of 2025.
