Math Curriculum: Math Expressions
Teachers will also supplement the math curriculum by using math manipulatives and engaging games or activities.
What we we learn in Math Expressions:
Unit 1: Partners and Number Patterns Through 10
Unit 2: Addition and Subtraction Strategies
Unit 3: Unknown Numbers in Addition and Subtraction
Unit 4: Place Value Concepts
Unit 5: Place Value Situations
Unit 6: Comparisons and Data
Unit 7: Geometry, Measurement, and Equal Shares
Unit 8: Two-Digit Addition
Supports and Enrichment:
Students will be provided with differentiated supports and enrichment activities after large group math lessons.
How do we challenge students?
Example: Unit 1 is about adding and subtracting within 10. If a student has shown mastery of number composition from 1-10 and can show the many ways to make a number, including with an equation, then we can challenge students with open ended questions or an activity that is an extension of the same lesson. For example, if you can demonstrate how add to 10 in many ways, then what are ways you can make 15 (using the same strategies we have learned)
Optional Printable Homework
An optional math packet will be emailed if you would like your child to have additional practice at home.
Math packets will begin being emailed home in October.
i-Ready Math:
Through diagnostic testing (3 times a year: Fall, Winter and Spring), students will receive supplemental interactive lessons and practice through i-ready. The lessons are based on student individual needs and current skill level. Students will learn at a pace that is just right for them.
Accessible through tablets and laptops (at home or school)
Supports small group instruction
