Spanish is everywhere! It is one of the most common languages in the world, spoken by over 580 million people, and the official language in 20 countries. In the United States alone, there are more than 56 million Spanish-speakers. More people speak Spanish in the U.S. than in Spain (population 47 million)!!
If you are interested in travel, art, literature, soccer (fútbol) or pop music, Spanish is the language for you!

Spanish is considered to be one of the easier languages to learn, with an estimated 575 - 600 hours to reach proficiency. It is a Category I language, according to the U.S. State Department.
Spanish has many cognates - words that look and/or sound similar and mean the same thing in English. For example, animal, hospital, and radio mean exactly what you think they mean! They are just pronounced slightly differently.

Día de los Muertos is celebrated in Mexico (and other parts of the world) at the beginning of November to honor those who have passed away. But it isn't sad - it's a celebration to remember friends and family members in happy way!
