Perseverance Time (PT) is a dedicated 40-minute block offered on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday when students choose which teacher they will work with. During this time, students can receive academic support, complete assignments, or work on personal projects. PT provides structured flexibility, allowing students to take ownership of their learning and progress. Students who may be struggling in a class can get help, while others may find the time most useful for enriching or expanding their learning.
ILHS opened during the Covid-19 pandemic, when all learning was taking place online. During that unusual time, teachers hosted something akin to office hours to help students who wanted it. When we returned to in-person learning, students asked for that practice to continue. During our first year learning in-person, we did so with time built into the schedule for students to work with teachers according to their needs.
All students are expected to work on schoolwork or a personal project during time. Part of the purpose of this time is for students to get help from their teachers.
Teachers are available to help students with work for their or other classes.
Teachers should never require students to attend their PT as part of normal coursework, though it can be a reasonable requirement for specific students in specific cases, such as reattempting an assessment.
Paraeducators will support teachers they normally work with that have the most students signed up for them during PT that day.
