During the 2024-25 school year, we revised our ILHS Skills - our schoolwide competencies. For information on how we arrived at the previous set of competencies, consult the ILHS Skills History.
The revision process was led by Kirby Morgan. ILHS had a grant through the Mastery-Based Learning Collaborative that allowed Kirby to act as our Mastery-Learning Coordinator (0.4 FTE). As part of this position in the 2024-25 school year, he was tasked with revising our schoolwide competencies. The rest of our school's Mastery Learning Team (Ashley Crisp, Mo Diehl, and Tiffany Rodriguez) supported and helped Kirby with the revision work.
The process began in September of 2024 and was completed in May of 2025. The first few months were spent creating collective understanding of the purpose of our schoolwide competencies among the staff. We established language about how the Skills get integrated into classes. The next few months were spent gathering input from our stakeholders. We took purposeful steps to encourage all voices of our students and families be represented. We used AI tools to analyze the natural-language data. In March, 2025, the first viable draft of the revised competencies was created, and the skills were developed, edited, and refined for the rest of the school year. For additional information, consult the detailed breakdown of the process we used.
The revised Future-Ready Skills were formally approved for adoption by the school on May 13th, 2025.
