1. How do I register as a SacCity student?

Watch this video OR follow the steps below:

  1. Go to Sacramento City’s homepage

  2. Hover on “Admissions”

  3. Click “Get Started and Apply

  4. Answer the “I am…” question

  5. Click on, and complete the “Online application

  6. Congratulations! You now are an SCC student!

  7. Now, take your ESL assessment test! (After you register and have a W-ID (w1234567, for example), email ESL Professor Brett Thomas and ask to take the assessment test, thomasb@scc.losrios.edu)

2. How and where do I take my assessment test?

After you register and have a W-ID (w12345678, for example), email ESL Professor Brett Thomas and ask to take the assessment test, thomasb@scc.losrios.edu

  2. The test is online, so you can do the test anywhere you have internet access (at home!).

Your assessment will show you what classes to enroll in.

You can see all our classes if you click on the SCC class schedule, and search "ESL"

  1. ESL = Reading and Writing classes, 6 units

  2. ESLG = Grammar classes, 3 units

  3. ESLL = Listening/Speaking classes, 3 units

  4. ESLP = Pronunciation classes, 2 units

  5. ESLLAB = lab classes, 0.5 units

Here is SCC's ESL Program Chart. The lower level classes are to the left (beginning with ESL 37, ESLG 31, ESLL 31, and get higher as they go to the right, with ESL 325 and ESLG 320 for example)

5. Can I get financial aid?

Maybe, but please apply and find out

Financial Assistance to apply for:

  1. Federal Financial Aid (if you’re documented) OR the CA Dream Act (if you’re undocumented).
