Hi everyone, my name is Anna. I am currently a student in Sacramento City College on the ESL program. I originally from Ukraine, and my native language is Ukrainian. I recently moved here, and like many new immigrants, I encouraged some difficulties, particularly with college system (like enrollment, financial aid, selecting classes). This experience inspired me to here today for helping assist the others with some challenges that they may face. I understood that in this community are a lot of people who really are willing to help you with any question on your way. I am excited to be part of this community, and I am happy to help you in any situation. I hope that everyone will find opportunities for personal growth and improvement. Hi everyone, my name is Andrea Judith Llaguno-Perez, but you can call me Andrea. Even though I was born in California, I lived with my family In Mexico until a couple of years ago, so I speak Spanish fluently. In my free time, I like to paint on canvas and read a good book with a cup of coffee. Since I have been able to start College, the ESL department has been a relief in my learning journey. When I begin taking classes, my English writing and reading skills were weak and almost non-existent, but even now while I am writing this introduction, I can notice my improvement, and I keep seeing it each day as I keep learning. Also, the help that I've received from Professors and colleagues has been a comfort during my time in College. Because I want to see new students succeed in their English skills as me, I have become an ambassador. En mi tiempo libre me gusta pintar al óleo y leer un buen libro con una taza de café. Desde que comencé a estudiar en el Colegio, el departamento de ESL ha sido un alivio en mi camino de aprendizaje. Cuando comencé a tomar clases, mis habilidades de escritura y lectura en inglés eran débiles o casi inexistentes, pero incluso ahora que estoy escribiendo esta introducción puedo ver mi progreso y lo sigo viendo cada día que sigo aprendiendo. Además, la ayuda que he recibido de los profesores y de mis compañeros ha sido  un consuelo durante mi tiempo en el Colegio. Y porque quisiera que también los nuevos estudiantes tengan éxito en sus habilidades de inglés, me he convertido en embajador. Hi everyone, my name is Thuy Diem Phuong Nguyen, but you can call me Thuy. I come from Vietnam and Vietnamese is my mother tongue. Ever since I started learning, English about 12 years ago, I’ve been liking it a lot. To me, English sounds so cool, especially in songs and poems. Plus, it doesn’t have complicated pronouns like in Vietnamese. Despite English being my favorite language, I rarely had the chance to practice it in Vietnam due to community school system. As a result, my first two years in America are a compilation of awkward conversations with other people. But thanks to many ESL courses, I’ve gained a lot of confidence in English speaking. Even though my grammar and pronunciation are not at native speaker level, I’ve been using it to help my parents communicate more efficiently with other native speakers. And with that experience, I hope to help other non-native speakers have an easier time in college. Xin chào các ban, mình là Thuy Diem Phuong Nguyen (tên bên Việt Nam của mình là Nguyễn Thụy Diễm Phương), các bạn có thể gọi mình là Thuy. Mình đến từ Việt Nam nên tất nhiên mình rất rành tiếng Việt. Hồi mình mới học tiếng Anh, khoảng 12 năm trước, mình đã rất thích nó. Với mình, tiếng Anh nghe rất hay, đặc biệt là ngôn từ trong các bài hát và câu thơ. Nó cũng không có xưng hô phức tạp như tiếng Việt, đó cũng là một điểm cộng. Tuy nhiên, dù mình rất thích tiếng Anh, chương trình học tiếng ở trường công ở Việt Nam không có đủ điều kiện cho mình luyện tập. Nên lúc mới qua Mỹ, mình giao tiếp với người bên đây rất ít và ngượng ngùng. Nhưng nhờ có các lớp ESL, mình mới có thể tự tin hơn trong việc giao tiếp. Mặc dù tiếng Anh của mình bây giờ không được như những người được sinh bên đây, mình có thể giúp người nhà giao tiếp hiệu quả hơn một chút. Mình cũng mong muốn được giúp các bạn như mình đã giúp người nhà mình. Hi everyone, I hope you are doing well. My name is Abdul Zahir and my last name is Razaqi. My native languages are Dari and Farsi. I am from Afghanistan, and I moved to the United States in January 2020. I have two daughters, one son, and my favorite sport is soccer. Xin chào các bạn, tôi tên Dang Khoa Phan và tôi có tên thân mật là David. Tôi đến từ Việt Nam hơn 4 năm qua. Những ngày đầu tiên ở Mỹ thật khó khăn vì tôi không thể giao tiếp bằng tiếng Anh với mọi người ở đây, vì thế tôi đã ghi tên học ở khoa ESL của trường Sacramento City College. Tại trường này, tôi đã được tạo mọi điều kiện tốt nhất cho việc học của mình. Chúng tôi có các giáo sư vô cùng tử tế luôn muốn bạn học tốt; có thư viện, các phòng thực hành, các trợ giảng, và các dịch vụ hổ trợ mỗi khi bạn cần giúp. Tôi đã có nhiều tiến bộ về tiếng Anh và hiện nay tôi đang học ngành Quản trị kinh doanh để lấy bằng A/A.

Hello everyone, my name is Dang Khoa Phan and my nickname is David. I come from Vietnam about 4 years ago. The first few days in America were difficult because I couldn't communicate in English with everyone here, so I enrolled in Sacramento City College, in the ESL department. At this school, I was given the best conditions for my studies. We have wonderful professors who want you to do well; we have libraries, practice labs, tutors, and support services that can help whenever you need them. I have made a lot of progress in English and now I am studying Business Administration to get my A/A degree.

I have experience as a tutor in the ESL department in 2020 and I worked with many Vietnamese students. Now, I am working part-time on campus.

Эта маленькая, но очень красивая страна расположена в восточной Европе. Я очень скучаю по своей семье и изо всех сил стараюсь стать успешным человеком, который сможет поддержать и их. 

               Я провела два года, изучая английский язык в Вашингтонской школе для взрослых в Западном Сакраменто, и там я встретила много интересных людей из разных стран. С некоторыми из них мы стали хорошими друзьями. 

              Год назад я начала обучение в Городском Колледже Сакраменто. Самой большой проблемой для меня было начать онлайн-обучение.  Но преподаватели колледжа показали мне простой способ обучения онлайн. Проблема и страх перед ней ушли сами собой. Сейчас мне даже очень нравится такой способ обучения. Я вижу в нём много преимуществ.

Hello everyone! My name is Cristina Ceban, and I am currently an ESL student at Sacramento City College. I moved to the United States from Moldova. This small, but a very beautiful country is in eastern Europe. I miss my family very much, and I am trying my best to become a successful person who can support them as well. 

I spent two years studying English at Washington Adult School, West Sacramento, and I met many interesting people from different countries there. We became good friends with some of them. 

           A year ago, I started studying at Sacramento City College. The biggest problem for me was to begin online studying, but the college teachers showed me an easy way to learn online. The problem and the fear of it went away by themselves. Now I even really like this way of learning. I see many advantages in it.   

          Keep positive and know that teachers and I are here to help you go through all the registration and studying process. You are not alone! I look forward to meeting each of you! Là một người nhập cư từ Việt Nam, tôi đã trải qua một chặng đường dài và tôi đủ khiêm tốn để tiếp tục con đường học vấn của mình ở một đất nước đầy cơ hội.  Tôi đang cố gắng hoàn thành các điều kiện tiên quyết để có được vị trí điều dưỡng tại Trường Cao đẳng Sacramento City College. Being an immigrant from Vietnam, I have come a long way and I am humbled enough to continue my education in a country full of opportunities. I moved to the U.S about 4 years ago and my listening and speaking skills weren't good. I wasn't confident to communicate with other people. My English has been greatly improved thanks to the ESL program in our college. Now I'm taking GED classes and I'm the CHEM 305 tutor. I'm working part-time as a nail technician on weekends and volunteering in bpshi clinic in my free time. I love to help others and share experiences in learning English.
