Final Grades

As stated earlier in the syllabus, your final grade will be determined by successful completion of the activities and assignments, not points.  Successful completion means that you have met or exceeded my expectations (as described in each posted activity or assignment). 

In the Canvas Gradebook you will see that each assignment is graded on a scale of 4 (Exceeds Expectations), 3 (Meets Expectations), or 2 (Does Not Meet Expectations). These points are meaningless; focus on the grade (Exceeds, Meets, or Does Not Meet). The Canvas Gradebook allows me to modify it to match these specification grading criteria, with one exception:

• • Assignments and Discussions will show a grade (Exceeds, Meets, Does Not Meet)

  • Surveys will show a score (4, 3, or 2), due to the way Canvas works.

Important Note: Because these points are arbitrary, the overall grade percentage in the Gradebook may not reflect your actual grade, so please ignore it.

Final grades are based on the number of assignment categories that Exceed, Meet, or Do Not Meet Expectations, as follows:

I realize that most of you will be unfamiliar with the type of grading I am using in my class, or any alternate grading scheme that deviates from the traditional one. However I am committed to ensuring that you will always be able to know exactly how well you are doing or what grade you have in my class, thus there are a variety of ways to do that:

  • I will also provide a grade update approximately every 5 weeks.

It will take several weeks for you to feel comfortable with how to earn your grade, so please give it some patience. I promise that I am here to support you and will answer any and all questions that you might have along the way.
