Once the semester has begun you'll use Canvas, but until then, here's some information about the class.
If you're in an IN PERSON class, you can find the syllabus at Geog 301 IN PERSON syllabus
If you're in an ONLINE class, you can find the syllabus at Geog 301 ONLINE syllabus
If you're enrolled in an IN PERSON class, we'll meet once a week to review the week's lab, then you'll complete the lab outside of class online.
Each week you'll have reading assignments, videos to watch, a discussion post, quizzes to take, and a lab exercise. Exams are online.
You don't need to buy a textbook for this class. You will complete your assignments and submit them through Canvas.
Your first assignment is due January 17th.
This class will probably take three times as much time as you think it should. It's only a one unit class, so you should do 1/3 the work of your regular classes? Nope, the State of California says that 54 hours of lecture equals 3 units of credit, but 54 hours of lab equals only one unit of credit. So the state thinks you should do three times as much work for one unit of lab as for one unit of lecture.
We'll do some math in this class. Nothing beyond basic algebra (3x=36, what is x?), unit conversions (feet to miles, C to F, F to C), and basic math, but we'll do more math than you were expecting.
If you have not used Canvas, the district's learning management software, I highly recommend signing up for the tutorial self-paced class. While you won't be able to access THIS class in Canvas until Saturday January 14th., you can get started on the tutorial class NOW: https://lrccd.instructure.com/enroll/LY89B6
