My name is Janeen Jirah Bocalbos and I am currently attending my 3rd semester here at Cosumnes River College. I was born and raised in Sacramento and while English is my first language, I come from a household where Tagalog, and other Filipino dialects are the primary language. Both my parents are Filipino immigrants, making me a Filipina-American. I started my college journey as a Business major however I have chosen to discontinue that path and start exploring different fields while I am completing my general education courses.
The reason I chose this class and what I hope this portfolio demonstrates is my growth in writing in an academic setting. One of my personal goals was to be able to confidently analyze pieces of text and be able to form essays regarding it and I truly believe the assignments we worked on in this class helped me get closer to achieving that. Nonetheless, while I am still undecided in my major for my college, I hope to use the skills I develop in this class for the rest of my educational career as well as my personal life. Tune in to my journey by clicking on the tabs above!
Letter to my Teacher
Our very first assignment was called "Letter to my Teacher". We were asked a series of questions that allow Professor Fairuze to gauge our history and knowledge with reading and writing. We elaborate on how our culture and identity have influenced our reading, writing, speaking, and listening practices.
