After going to the gym three times a week for a month. I have tracked my time spent at the gym for each day. I wanted to check the average time spent there and make comparisons to see if there were any differences in averages. I collected the times to see if there's any room for improvement from my fitness app as an experiment.
So, I will be testing at the alpha level of 0.05 if the averages for each day are the same.
Null: The average time spent at the gym is the same for all three days.
Hypothesis: The average time spent at the gym is different from all three days.
To collect the data, I used my phone app to check in and out of the gym from Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for last four weeks. I wanted to see if the average time for each day are the same or not.
Statistical data that shows the average, min, standard deviation, quartiles, and max.
This boxplot reveals a visual display of the data that we have collected for each day as Mon, Wed, and Friday as Group 1, 2, and 3. From looking at the data we can see that Wednesday has the highest on average time spent at the gym. While, Friday has the least time spent.
This ANOVA table computes the F - Value and the P - Value.
f = 1.438
p = 0.287
P - Value of 0.287 is greater than our alpha levels at 0.05 which indicates that the hypothesis is null. Therefore, the data reveals that the average time spent at the gym for all three days are the same.
Going to the gym and collecting the data was the challenge. As using Google Sheets had some learning curves as well. Learning about hypothesis testing for comparisons of averages has allow me to have a better understanding at looking at statistical data.
I would spend hours at the gym weekly and without tracking how much time I have had spent there from each session. The test had allowed me to assess and analyze my data if I had spent more time on average on other particular days. This gives me an idea if I need to change my scheduled time to reflect the averages tested from each three day in comparison. Now that I know that my averages were roughly the same I don't have to change my routine on any day of the week.
