As of July 2021, the temperature seems to getting warmer as we make it towards August. It be great to know ahead to make preparations such as those who may need to prepare for winter logging.
My cousin wanted to spend some times in Sacramento coming from LA to the North of Sacramento. Daniel wanted to check the temperature from the past few days in Sacramento to see if there are any temperature swings. That way he can pack warmer or cooler clothing. I decided to help Daniel collect data from an official Sacramento weather page to help him prepare for his trip.
Two days of six hour intervals starting at 12 AM where temperature in Sacramento were recorded.
The temperature recorded in Sacramento from HERE from July 18th and 19th will be used to test the comparison of average increasing temperatures.
Null: Temperature levels of July 19th will be lower than July 18th.
Alternative: Temperature levels of July 19th will not be lower than July 18th.
To test for T or Test Statistic we use a formula.
t = (87-87.25) - 0
___________________________________
sq.rt[(11.34^2/10) + (10.69^2/10)]
t = -0.032
p-value = 0.489
critical value = -6.313
This boxplot reveals that the July 19th had a slightly higher average on the vertical axis. This visual graph indicates that temperatures have slightly increased on average from July 18th to 19th.
Using a Left tail test for alpha level at 0.05. The p-value at 0.489 is greater than the significance level. Therefore, the original hypothesis remain.
From collecting data from July 18th to 19th on four intervals of six hours. The comparison were to see if the temperature comparison were to support the evidence of increasing temperatures. The data reveals that the original hypothesis remains the same that the temperature appears to be increasing temperatures very slightly to near equal terms.
Now that we know that the temperature appears to be some what stable we can now head off to the lake!
I didn't have a difficult time colleting the data since many official weather pages make records of data subsets. I used one from an official Sacramento weather page. The difficulty lies in discerning the hypothesis was either null or the alternative based on analyzing the numerical data. Although, the numbers may slightly be off the method of test and decision may indicate a completely different result.
This testing method gives me confidence in making comparisons on averages. Which will be able to help me make better predictions and decisions when testing experiments.
