This class is a hybrid, which means that you will need reliable access to a computer/ laptop/ chromebook/ mobile device and WiFi throughout the semester because you are required to complete assignments and exams in Canvas. You also have access to Google Apps through the Los Rios Single Sign-on portal.
Be sure to create a back-up plan in case of technological emergencies.
This is a transferable, 3 unit college class which means that it is reasonable to expect you to read approximately one chapter per week from the recommended textbook (see info below). However I have created study guides, video tutorials, and tutorial worksheets to support your learning, which means that the textbook becomes a supplemental tool.

All of the posted resources in Canvas are designed to deliver all the learning you’ll need, but the textbook is a wonderful supplement to help you dig deeper into the concepts and theories. I know that sometimes reading can be time consuming and difficult, but the value of what you are learning from this book is priceless and worth the "sweat equity" and your time.

The book below is an optional reader, which means that you can choose to read this book, or not. I can tell you that my past students who have opted to read this book find it worthwhile, as it provides a deeper understanding of the impact of racism and the need for creating more inclusive spaces for marginalized students.
The optional reader can be purchased or rented, and many copies are also available for checkout at the ARC Library.
