As your instructor, I will also monitor all discussions and provide feedback to the entire class where needed at least weekly. I will provide individual feedback to our students assignments/papers/projects/assessments within one week of the due date and work with you so you will have a successful learning experience in this course!

Michelle Poliseno
by appointment
Do not hesitate to reach out, I am flexible, and want to help.
People learn better when they are not frustrated, so please reach out to us, your classmates through SLACK, or the free Sacramento City College tutoring services BEFORE you get frustrated. I am here to support you, and I want to work with you whenever possible! My contact information is provided below as well as the homepage and in our Canvas course. If you are stuck, and cannot meet with me, move on to another topic and we can go back to that later.
If I am not immediately available, I will respond to messages received Monday through Friday within 24-48 hours. I will respond to messages received over the weekend first thing Monday morning (or sooner).
Canvas Inbox--This is the second best method to contact me.
Math and Statistics are not spectator sports. Thus, we will all need to make sure we are participating in and helping each other along the way. One of the goals for this class is for us to realize that we are not the only knowledge holders. Each one of us in this class brings prior knowledge to the table that can create a fabulous learning space.
As we move through this class, you will be expected to participate in online engagement that will consist of:
Attending and actively partaking in the weekly zoom class meetings, joining while at work or in the car on a daily basis is not encouraged.
Attending a certain number of student hours through Zoom.
For all our communication to be beneficial to our entire class, we need to make sure we all agree to a couple of ground rules.
Student-to-Student
Treat contributions made by other members of the class with respect.
Ask questions when you are unsure of the material. Remember you are probably not the only one that needs clarification.
Answer any questions on the discussion board that you feel you understand. Even if it's just to provide insight on what you think. Remember we want to learn from all of our mistakes.
Have patience and a sense of humor with technology. There will be hiccups, expect them.
Contribute regularly to collaborative activities to ensure other members of the community have ample opportunity to read/listen, reflect, and respond to your ideas.
Respect the diverse opinions and viewpoints of each member of our community. Differences allow us to learn and grow together.
Understand that communications shared through text have a higher likelihood of being misinterpreted than the spoken word. Therefore, when you type a thought or a comment, read it carefully before you submit it. If you question the way it is worded, read it out loud to yourself. If you still question the way it’s phrased, rewrite it.
Contribute regularly to group dialogue, including blog posts and replies — the contributions of each play a role in the collective strength and diversity of our community.
Members of our community are restricted to enrolled members of our class, in an effort to maintain a safe, trustworthy discussion environment.
All images and video content shared within this community will reflect acceptable academic standards.
Student-to-Instructor ( in addition to the above, consider the following when reaching out to your instructor)
When communicating with the instructor, make sure you are using full sentences and avoiding "texting language."
Make sure you address all your communications (Dear Professor, Hello Michelle, etc. )
Ensure that you close your email or message with a closure followed by your name (thanks, all the best, regards, etc...)
Email: polisem@scc.losrios.edu
If at any time, you feel that any of these ground rules have been violated by a member of our community, you are encouraged to bring your concern directly and immediately to me, Professor Poliseno, your community leaders. Identify which ground rule has been violated and include specific evidence of the violation in your email. Your concerns will be addressed promptly with careful consideration in an individualized manner.
