7th grade students will attend art everyday for one trimester. During this time, they will learn classroom routines, proper use of tools, and the Elements and Princples of art, while creating 10 different projects within that time.

Grading - Formative vs Summative
Grades in Art are based on a 4-point grading scale. This scale is used for everything in the art room, including projects, assignments, activities, and other coursework.
While every assignment is scored out of 4 points, the weight of the assignment depends on whether it is Formative or Summative.
This grading system allows students to clearly understand what is expected of them and gives them opportunities to grow, practice, revise, and demonstrate their artistic skills throughout the year.

Formative is set as 30% of the grade. This will include anything other than a project.
Example: Mini Project/prepping activities, origami, and cleaning tasks.

Summative is set as 70% of the grade. This will include projects or daily activities

Artwork of the Month
Artwork of the Month
Throughout the year, students will explore a variety of famous and influential artworks. Each month, a new artwork will be displayed at the front of the room. Students will learn a little about the artist, the artwork, and its historical or cultural significance.
Beginning the second week of each trimester, students will have the opportunity to put their own spin on the featured artwork. Each week, a different art material or medium will be provided, and one student from each class will be selected to make their mark on the artwork by distorting, adapting, or transforming part of the original.
At the end of the month, we will compare the original artwork with the student-created version. As a class, we will discuss how the changes in materials, style, color, shape, and composition affect the artwork's appearance, mood, and meaning.
The goal is to encourage students to look closely at famous artwork while also exploring how artists can take an existing idea and transform it into something new and personal.
