6th grade students will attend art during Trimester 2 for approximately 9–10 class sessions. During this time, they will learn classroom routines, proper use of tools, and focus on the different art Mediums, covering one each day!
Art Mediums are the materials used to make art (paint, clay, pencil etc.)
Creating pictures using pencils, pens, charcoal, or markers.
Vocab: Outline, Contour, Hatching, Cross-Hatching, Blending, Shading & Sketching
Objective: Students will explore drawing materials and create a drawing inspired by examples from drawing books.
Creating art using paint such as watercolor, acrylic, or tempera.
Vocab: Brushstroke, Palette, Tint, Shade, Blend, Layering & Wash
Objective: Students will explore paintng material, specifically watercolor paints and create a painting of a food.
Three-dimensional art that can be carved, modeled, or built.
Vocab: Assemblage, Dimension, freestanding, Abstract Sculpture, Armature, Carving and Modeling
Objective: Students will explore sculpture material, specifically paper sculptures. As a group they will with paper only recreate a famous artwork.
Art made from clay that is shaped and fired in a kiln.
Vocab: Relief, Construction, Slip, Kiln, Pinch Pot, Coil & Glaze
Objective: Students will be playing "Clay Wars" and judging eachothers creations.
Making art by transferring ink from a carved or prepared surface onto paper.
Vocab: Monoprint, Brayer, Ink, Plate, Relief Print, Texture & Edition
Objective: Students will be creating a Mini Eraser Print.
Artwork made by gluing different materials (paper, photos, fabric) together.
Vocab: Adheasive, Cut-Out, Focal Point, Juxtaposition, Overlapping, Mixed Media & Background
Objective: Students will be creating a notecard color collage, using printed and magizine paper.
Art created by capturing images with a camera.
Vocab: Framing, Lighting, Focus, Exposure, Angle, Shutter & Subject
Objective: With a partner, students will learn to take personality portraits.
Art created using computers or tablets.
Vocab: Brush Tool, Layer, Opacity, Pixel, Canvas, Undo, Eraser Tool, Zoom & Selection Tool
Objective: Students will be using the iPads and tablets to create a digital drawing
Artwork made using more than one material.
Objective: Students will be able to explore multiple mediums and create their own artwork
