Teachers will post daily lessons no later than 9:00 a.m., Monday through Friday. We understand families are balancing many responsibilities during this time. Therefore, there is flexibility around when students access and complete their learning. Listed below are the links to each school's Distance Learning landing pages. Click on your child's school below and select the learning plan link provided by your teacher. Students can also find their school's landing page in Classlink.
Your child's teacher will be in regular contact with you through email and other digital means to help and support you as you start the Distance Learning experience with your student. If you have any questions, please feel free to connect with your teacher or principal for learning support and help.
As part of our Hopkins Distance Learning Plan, special education teachers will continue to work with regular education teachers to ensure students with educational disabilities (students on IEPs) have access to the instructional activities provided by their classroom teachers. In addition, special education teachers will collaborate with the regular education teachers to modify the instructional activities and work expectations to ensure an equitable education for all students.
During this time of transitioning to Distance Learning, students and families will need time to become familiar with the new learning format.
As part of the comprehensive delivery of specialized instruction, students will be required to learn through asynchronous learning. This type of learning means students will access a variety of online or paper activities without real-time instruction. Special education teachers will provide students with instructional information that the student can use when he or she is ready to learn.
In some cases, students will require short and specific synchronous learning experiences that would require the student to receive direct instruction from the special education teacher via either phone call or video conferencing.
The specialized instruction will align with students' educational needs as identified in the current IEP. Students will access the instruction through their school issued device. In addition, special education teachers and related service providers will provide direction to parents on how to promote and reinforce student learning in a variety of ways such as email, phone calls, and video conferencing.
Synchronous learning, especially the use of video conferencing, is new for teachers, students, and parents/guardians. As a result, it will take time for all to learn this new process. It is possible that this is not appropriate for some of our learners due to concerns with the student engagement level or the ability to access the instruction. Special education teachers will design lessons that allow for assessing student learning and engagement. This information will be used for progress monitoring and to determine the scope and sequence of daily lessons for the students in the learning group/classroom.
Some students may have an opportunity to participate in virtual group experiences since many of our students benefit from collaborating with others. In these cases, it is important to understand the need for confidentiality. Students and parents who agree to participate in virtual group activities may not share any information about other students in the group outside of the group. These sessions should not be recorded by students or families.
