To go deeper into the topic of Lake Superior agates, I have decided to do what nobody has ever done before.
I have decided to make a Lake Superior agate out of wax, entirely from scratch. What I will need is three blocks of white wax, a small bottle of red dye, a knife, a cutting board, two liquid measuring cups, a microwave, a small bowl, and a lot of patience.
What I did to make the agate was I took out the three blocks of wax, and set it on the cutting board. Then, I took the knife and cut a piece off of the wax. Next, I chopped it into smaller pieces and melted it in the microwave. After that, I added red dye, and I poured the wax into the bowl; swishing it around before it cooled, so that it would cover all of the bowl. I repeated this process, but every other time, I would not add dye, producing alternating red and white layers. This whole project took about two hours to complete. Then, I left it in the freezer for about a half an hour. Finally, I took it apart to reveal the beautiful banding pattern.
