SECOND STEP

SECOND STEP: STUDENT SUCCESS THROUGH PREVENTION

Throughout the year, groups of 5th, 6th and 7th graders participate in the Second Step Program with their counselor or their Fluco Focus teacher. Students develop skills, behaviors, and attitudes that help them in middle school and throughout their lives. Students learn how to cultivate a growth mindset, develop goals, actively listen, empathize, disagree respectfully, consider others’ perspectives, practice being assertive rather than aggressive and how to manage their emotions. They experience how to communicate effectively in a relaxed and enjoyable environment. Active participation is the key as students address multiple aspects of their social and emotional success.
