CAREER EDUCATION AT FMS: 6th and 7th graders take a 5-week mini course in each grade called Career Investigations. Over the two years students explore career options and begin investigating career opportunities. They assess their roles in society, identify their roles as workers, analyze their personal assets, complete a basic exploration of career clusters, and select career pathways or occupations for further study. This course also helps students identify and demonstrate the workplace skills that employers look for in employees.
THE ACADEMIC AND CAREER PLAN: PREPARING FOR HIGH SCHOOL AND BEYOND
In 7th grade, students meet with their counselor to learn what they can do to make the most of their high school education and to prepare for education and training beyond high school. They learn about graduation requirements; career and technical education opportunities at FCHS; the importance of rigorous course work and doing one’s best and why it is so important today to get a good education. Students finish by developing a tentative 6-year academic and career plan.
