CLRT Summer R.A.C.E. Challenge

Challenge yourself to an 8-week experience that will collectively move you to the next step in your journey to responsiveness, as you contribute to the racial justice reformation

Much like the virtual 5Ks happening around the country right now, this “RACE” will be run by you, the individual. Also, like those virtual 5Ks, you will be able to go farther with the support of others. Accordingly, this challenge has two components: Individual and Collective.

All participants receive 10 CEUs. 1 Board Credit option available.

Build Your Own Book Study for Board Credit

Create your own personalized board credit opportunity. If you have a group of at least three educators who want to read the same educational book as a book study, we can offer you up to two board credits. As a reminder, board credits are like graduate credits that can be used in SoWashCo for a lane change. You can use up to six board credits during a lane change.

To take advantage of this opportunity, follow these steps:

  • Identify at least three colleagues who want to study the same educational book.

  • Identify a supervisor/administrator who will meet with you at the conclusion of the book study, so you can share what was learned.

  • Write up a brief description of the book to be studied, the participants, and timeline to James Magee for approval. jmagee@sowashco.org

  • For one Board Credit, you must meet at least twice for a total of 4 hours of face-to-face/virtual time and 6 hours of reading.

  • For two Board Credits, it would be 8 hours of face-to-face/virtual time and 12 hours of reading.

  • The maximum allowed is two board credits.

  • Must be completed outside of contract hours between June-August

  • When the study is done – have the administrator involved send a note to James Magee that the class is completed and the staff have earned their board credits.

  • Each participant then sends in a one-page summary of what was learned/how it can be applied to their profession and a check for $20/Board Credit, made payable to District 833, to Peggy Joswiak at the DSC.

  • Peggy will then send a certificate to the participants that can be used toward a lane change.
