Soft Cloth: If your instrument does not come with one from the store, you can use a piece of an old t-shirt. Simply find a t-shirt that everyone in the family has grown out of or has holes in it. Cut a piece that is about 8" X 11". (About the size of a sheet of paper. The best thing for the soft cloth is something that has been through the laundry many times and is lint free. This cloth will be used for dusting and wiping the sticky rosin off of the instrument.
Nail Clippers: These should be kept at home. The idea is that if your nails are too long they will click on the strings and get in the way. Nails should be trimmed from time to time.
These items may be purchased from your local music store or your Orchestra Director if you are receiving a school instrument.

Rosin: Bass rosin is different from rosin for Violins, Violas, and Cellos. It is a stickier formula than the others due to the size of the bow and bass. Made from tree sap, it puts a sticky film on the bow that enables a sound to come out of the instrument. Bass players should be sure they purchase Pop's Bass Rosin. You may be offered other types by your music store, but please make sure you ask for Pop's. It truly works better.
Also, with Bass Rosin, make sure you don't remove the paper covering completely from the rosin. Due to the sticky nature of the rosin, it will adhere to the container and you won't be able to get it out again.
