When sizing your student for Violin or Viola, have your student reach their left arm out to the side, palm up. It is important that the student is not stretching or straining, but simply reaching out to the left. The arm should be out to the left of the student, not directly in front of the student.
Measure from the base of the neck to the center of the palm. Use this measurement and refer to the size chart below.
If your student is close in size or “on the line”, please choose the smaller size. It is always easier to play on a smaller instrument than one that is too large.
For Viola students in 6th grade and under, even if your child measures for a 15” or above viola, please rent a 14” Viola. 15” instruments and larger may be considered in 7th grade and above.
When sizing your student for Cello or Bass, simply measure the height of your child and refer to the size chart below.
If your child is close in size or “on the line”, please choose the smaller size. It is always easier to play on a smaller instrument than one that is too large.
