The MN Department of Public Safety has launched the new e-card. Students and parents will no longer need to keep track of white cards (certificates of completion for behind-the-wheel instruction). Completion information for behind-the-wheel training is electronically sent to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety (DPS), and you will receive confirmation via email.
If you completed your behind-the-wheel training before July 1, 2025, you must bring your physical "White Card" with you on the day of your test.
You can schedule your road test appointment online (check the exam stations listed below).
Schedule online 30 days before your 16th birthday.
Exam Stations are extremely busy. We suggest scheduling your road test as soon as possible.
Drivers under 18 years of age must hold their Instructional Permit for six months without a conviction for a moving violation or an alcohol or controlled substance violation.
Before your appointment, complete the online pre-application at drive.mn.gov (print your confirmation and bring it with you on the day of your test). FYI, you need to be 16 to complete the online pre-application for your driver's license (if your test is on your birthday, you'll wait until your test day to complete this form).
Due to social distancing and space capacities at the exam stations, the accompanying licensed driver should be prepared to wait outside during the road test. Please be dressed appropriately for the weather.
There is a $20 no-show fee if you fail to show for your appointment or cancel within 24 hours of the scheduled appointment.
Visit drive.mn.gov to cancel or reschedule an appointment.
Please arrive at least 15 minutes before the start of your exam.
