If you’re taking your road test at the Eagan Driver’s License Exam Station, it’s important to understand how the course is set up before test day.
All roads on the course are four lanes. This is intentional and affects lane choice, turns, and positioning throughout the test.
Knowing the layout ahead of time can help you stay calm, choose the correct lanes, and avoid unnecessary deductions.
Below are a few key things to know about the Eagan road test course and what examiners expect.
General Parking Reminder
Parking is not the make-or-break moment of your road test. The most important thing is that you do not hit a cone (car) or the curb, so it’s okay to stop, pull forward, and start over as many times as needed.
⭐ Important Reminder — Start Over as Many Times as Needed! ⭐
In the real world, if you’re about to back into something, you stop, pull forward, and reset. The examiner wants to see that same judgment on the road test. Stop and start over as many times as needed — safety comes first.
Two-Way Marked Road
Eagan Two-Way Unmarked Road
Unmarked Two-Way Road
There is an unmarked, four-lane, two-way road on the course. This type of road is not very common, so it can be confusing for some students.
Driving in this section is the same as driving on the road shown in the top-left image, except there are no lane markings on the pavement.
Bottom-left image: This shows how you should position your vehicle while driving through this section of the course.

One-Way Road on the Course
The one-way road on the course has four lanes. When turning from the one-way road, you will be entering a two-way road. Always make sure you turn onto the correct side of the road.
Remember
When entering the turn lanes at the end of the one-way road, the lane lines are SOLID white.
A solid white line means lane changes are discouraged.
You will be told to change lanes before entering this section.
If You Turn Left From the One-Way
You must turn from the left two lanes.
Stay in your assigned lane.
Turning into the other lane is not an automatic fail, but it is not preferred and will result in a deduction.
Stay to the right of the center line as you enter the new road.
Turning onto the wrong side of the road is an automatic fail.
If You Turn Right From the One-Way
You must turn from the right two lanes.
Stay in your assigned lane.
Turning into the other lane is not an automatic fail, but it is not preferred and will result in a deduction.
Turning the wrong way onto a one-way road is an automatic fail.
In some cases, the examiner may ask you to turn the wrong way. If this happens, tell them you cannot do that and continue driving straight.
NO TURN ON RED
Normally, you may turn right on red after coming to a complete stop unless a “NO TURN ON RED” sign is posted.
A “NO TURN ON RED” sign is posted on the Eagan course.
When this sign is present, do not turn on red. Wait for a green light before turning.
⚠️ Turning right on red when this sign is posted is an automatic fail.
Uncontrolled Intersection
The Eagan course includes an uncontrolled intersection. As you approach, slow down and look carefully for other approaching traffic.
The first vehicle to arrive has the right-of-way, and other drivers must yield.
However, safety always comes first. Even if you arrive first, you may need to yield to avoid a crash if another driver does not slow down or stop.
Always slow down, observe, and be ready to yield based on what other drivers do.
