The District 196 Adult Basic Education (ABE) Diploma Program is an approved diploma completion program through the state of Minnesota. Students who are both under and over age 21 are eligible to earn a diploma if they meet the enrollment requirements.
Students who have attended high school in District 196 will receive a diploma from their original high school. Students who have never attended a District 196 high school and meet the Apple Valley High School requirements will receive an Apple Valley High School diploma unless their home high school will issue the diploma.
Classes are offered in either a structured program or as an independent study course. Classes meet the requirements of the district high school granting the diploma. Learners who attend classes, participate, complete required assignments, and pass the assessments may earn up to one trimester credit per class within a session. For most of the year, groups are small, 12-18 students, to allow for more individual attention and small group process. Spring and summer session classes are generally larger and enrollment may be limited.
Age 17 – Adult; approximately one year or less of senior level credits remaining; limit of five credits per year for dual-enrolled students. (Eligibility is determined by the Lead Diploma Teacher)
