Greetings:
My name is John Kendrick, but the students call me John, which is short for “Old John of Gaunt, time honour’d Lancaster,” a line in perfect iambic pentameter from William Shakespeare, my favorite writer. I teach the English classes in the Diploma Program at the Dakota Valley Learning Center. Students can choose from 13 different classes offered in rotation through the year.
I graduated from the University of Minnesota, majoring in English and German, and earned graduate degrees at the St. Thomas and Hamline University. I taught junior high English in St. Paul for 20 years before transitioning to this district. I came to the DVLC in 2019 and have never looked back. I really enjoy my work here.
I live in St. Paul with my wife Teresa, who is a nurse at a clinic in Eagan. I have three grown sons, a daughter-in-law, and a young grandson. We also have a cabin on the St. Croix River near Danbury, Wisconsin. I get up there as much as I can to ski and paddle.
