Antoniano Ikastetxea is a school located in the centre of Zarautz since 1912 and has around 60 educators working with approximately 600 students from ages 1 to 16. Our students enter the school when they are 1 and leave it at the age of 16, so they work in a family-like environment, as we see and help them grow from a very young age.
We have a D model, which means that a big part of our curriculum is taught in Basque, although we also have lessons in Spanish and in English. In secondary school we have a program called SSLIC: Social Sciences through a language integrated curriculum. In this program most of our students acquire Social sciences and history content through English language.
At our school multilingualism is a key issue for us so we also provide English lesson to students from a very young age: year one.
We also offer French lessons in secondary school and internationalisation being one of the key objectives of the school, since the year 2010 we have organised language and cultural exchanges with several French schools.
Bilingualism is part of our lives since we are born as citizens from Basque Country. We are surrounded by it, we live it at home, on media and in the street. It is part of our culture. Being this our situation, we have a particular motivation in studying and experiencing another bilingual reality such as the Dutch one, different to ours but similar in some aspects, in order to learn from it, enrich our knowledge and help us in our quest for multilingualism.
LENTIZ REVIUSLYCEUM
Lentiz Onderwijsgroep is an organisation that has 12 schools in total which Lentiz Reviuslyceum Maassluis is one of. The school was built around 60 years ago.
There are approximately 850 students and 80 educators. The students enter the school when they are around 12 years old and leave when they are 17/18.
The first three years we have all the subjects, there are approximately 15 of them. Once the third year is over for the students, they can decide what kind of subjects they enjoy. Based on that all the students make their own subject choises which forms into a package they follow in the following years.
In our school we have the 2 highest levels from the Netherlands, havo and vwo, from which vwo is the highest. The students that follow a havo study graduate with 7 subjects and vwo with 8.
Once the havo students are done with their exams, they can go to a higher school which provides a specific study which we call 'HBO'. Translated to english it's called 'Higher Profession Education'. When the vwo students are done, they can go to the university.
Our school organises a lot of nice trips. In the third year they organise an exchange, in the fourth year you can go on a skitrip and when you graduate you can go to Disneyland or Phantasialand.
In the first year the students can choose if they would want to participate in an extra sportclass. If you join that, you follow every week an extra sport class and do a lot of nice activities. For example you can go canoeing and go golving.
