Education
PENTA Career Center is a wonderful resource for both students and adults with and without disabilities.
PENTA is a vocational school in Perrysburg, OH that provides an array of vocational career training opportunities side-by-side with typical high school curriculum. Students may go to PENTA as early as Sophomore year and as late as Junior/Senior year.
The Sophomore Exploratory Program is for students who would benefit from slower-paced instruction and an opportunity to explore two career fields that have been chosen based off results from their Career Assessment.
Juniors and Seniors are not required to complete a Career Assessment, but may be provided one if requested. Juniors and Seniors may attend the programs of their choice as well, but some programs are in high demand and have waitlists or rigorous requirements. In addition, students who attend PENTA may also have the opportunity to earn college credit for their work.
Adults also have the opportunity to participate in the job training at PENTA. They can complete a number of different programs for gainful employment or to earn their GED.
College Level Disability Services
Students who would like to attend higher education after high school must be aware that the university education system is vastly different than what he/she experienced in high school.
In college, there are no IEPs or laws requiring professors to ensure students are getting the accommodations they need. Instead, students are required to seek out their own accommodations and inform their instructors of their disabilities and needs.
