Take the Next Step in your graduation journey!
We know the junior year can be stressful, so we want to challenge you to take a minute to breathe! Breathe in positive thinking and breathe out stress! Breathe in determination and focus and breathe out comparison and unrealistic expectations. All of the big things are happening (or are about to start happening) … enjoy this journey!
You are all taking the ACT in March. Mark your calendar if you have not already done so! We would recommend that you plan to retake the ACT or give the SAT a try! Although many colleges are still test optional, we recommend that you submit your test scores as this can help you in the admissions process and scholarship opportunities! The SAT will be offered at Anson High School on March 8th. February 21st is the deadline to apply. You can click here to register. If paying for these tests is not possible, please reach out to Ms. Benton, fee waivers are available!
This is also a great time to begin refining your resume. If you have not started a resume, here is a great template to get you started.
This spring you should begin visiting colleges. Here are some tips to make the most of your college visit:
Book an official tour with the office of admissions. A lot of schools track your interest level and review this during the admission process.
Ask lots of questions! You will want to know more about transportation, the dorms, meal plans and campus safety! Make a list of questions before you go!
Talk to students while you are on campus - you will get some unfiltered opinions about their experience!
Visit campus while school is in session - this will help you feel the vibe of the student body and campus life
Explore campus media - do they have a school newspaper or radio station? Pick up a copy or tune in!
Visit the academic department for your major. Talk to students there and to professors. See if you can sit in on a class during your visit.
Eat on campus and visit a dorm
Learn about the local community
Visit the student center. This usually has lot of resources for students - cafes, bookstore, theatre, activities rooms, etc.
Go to the campus library - climb the stacks and see what resources are available to students on campus.
Visit the financial aid office to make sure you know how to be considered for financial aid and scholarships
If you have any disabilities, ask about disability accommodations
Attend a sporting event.
Sit down in the courtyard, do some people watching, take in the vibe of the college and see if you can picture yourself here!
